Design (and build) a Food in Fashion entry

×  Sorry. Designer applications have closed for Food in Fashion 2019

Fashion design has rarely been so delectable.

The challenge to our volunteer fashion designers is simple: You will have one month to design and build a fashion show entry ... but at least ten percent of what your model wears on the runway must come out of a restaurant sponsor that is paired with you. This can be whatever you and your restaurant partner negotiate to work with, whether consumable or not.

Plan on a February 18, 2018, happy hour reception where the pairing will take place. Following that, it will be your responsibility to set times with your restaurant sponsor to see what materials (edible or not) can be incorporated into your design. It will also be up to you to coordinate with the restaurant on how and when to obtain the materials. Feel free to work with a volunteer male or female model you know or choose from one of the models who volunteer through us.

Finally, you may want to set aside most of the day, Monday, March 18, 2019, for the event. There will be a walk-through in the afternoon prior to the evening's show. A room at The Joule will be set aside for you to help dress and style your model for the evening show.

Unlike traditional fashion shows where models race down the runway, this very theatrical presentation of your creation is slower, savored, and pumped-up by the song of your choice.

During the show each fashion will be judged by a panel in the audience and prizes will be awarded to the top designers. Our website, printed program, and audio-visual presentation will include information about you, your design line, and your model.

New for 2019:

Food in Fashion moves to The Joule, the luxury hotel in downtown Dallas.
Prizes will also be awarded to the Food in Fashion models wearing the winning designs.
Designers and their restaurant sponsors will be brought onstage during the show to be interviewed by our emcee.
You, your model, and your restaurant sponsor will be whisked to a post-fashion show VIP reception with where you will be guests of honor.

We may not be able to accept all designers who apply.

Food in Fashion will be presented by the Greater Dallas Restaurant Association, Monday, Mar. 18, 2019, at The Joule, Dallas.

Proceeds benefit career-development programs in the restaurant and hospitality industries.

Our primary beneficiary is the Texas Restaurant Association Education Foundation. A 501 (c)(3) charitable non-profit [Tax ID: 74-2732907], TRAEF sponsors ProStart, a restaurant workforce-development program in public schools.

A portion of proceeds will also be donated to El Centro College's Food and Hospitality Institute and CitySquare's WorkPaths Hospitality Training Program.
